In my most humble opinion Playstation 2 is the greatest system of all times. Research says that this system released in March 2000. This means this system is over 10 years old. Nintendo had an 8-10 year run in the 80's where they dominated video games. At this time Atari & games alike were dying down giving Nintendo no competition until Sega Master system released in 1985.

This system was no real competition for Nintendo but it did give gamers choices. There was no great platform until Super Nintendo (Famicon). Which was the greatest american 16-bit system (in my opinion). It's competition was Sega Genesis & Turbografx-16. Turbo was an extremely powerful system for it's time as it often displayed 24-bit graphics on their 8-bit graphics engine.

Pc-Engine (Turbografx in Japan) was the greatest & most supported 16-bit system. This system invented Cinema cut scenes, using samples from Anime or creating short Anime skits to add to the storyline. But more importantly this system introduced CD gaming. Before this all games were cartridge based. PC-Engine/Turbografx-16 is also the only system that got more powerful as time went on. NEC produced system cards that would make the processor more powerful making the CD a literal "Super-CD" Rom.

To combat this Sega made Sega CD which didn't do well & Nintendo was suppose to make a deal with Sony to make a CD for Super Nintendo. Nintendo pulled out of the deal very late in the developement process virtually leaving Sony no choice to either accept the loss of time, money & resources, or to make their own system.

This is when Sony playstation was developed. This system had games that were better then the games in the arcade. It had a thing to it, that if you didn't own one & played it, you had to get one. Playstation is also the system that made video games cool for adults to play. Although splatterhouse had set the grounds for such a game, Resident Evil (Capcom 1996).

This game had everybody talking, young and old. People were like "yo did you see that you can do this". At the same time sports games had totally evolved. Before this time almost all sports games had fake teams & players. Although in the late 16-bit era this changed, it was finalized in the 32-bit era.

I'm gonna leave alot out sorry this is getting long & my hands are hurting. Anyway lets get back to my defending statement PS2 greatest system. This system has outlasted these systems. 1-Gamecube 2-Xbox 3-Dreamcast 4- & is currently alive in the era of Playstation 3, Xbox 360 & Nintendo Wii.

PS3 & 360 slaughter PS2 in technical ability, but PS2 has a library of great games that keeps growing. All games under $40, unless special imports. PS2 is still much more powerful then PSP & yet PSP is possibly the best portable gaming system ever released. Nintendo DS & TurboExpress were 2 fantastic portable gaming systems also. There are portable emulator systems but they are not major gaming company endourced & don't have any real games of their own.
